Iran, Russia Stress Construction Of New Nuclear Plants : Salehi

Bushehr, Sept 23, IRNA – Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said Monday that Tehran and Moscow have reached agreement on construction of new nuclear power plants. He told reporters in this southern province that the experts of the two countries are continuing technical negotiations on the issue. Salehi along with Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian arrived in Bushehr this morning to attend a ceremony during which the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant was temporarily handed over to the Iranian contractor. Salehi expressed hope that the second unit of Bushehr power plant would be launched in near future. The Iranian contractor takes over the first unit of the 1,000-megawatt nuclear power after 37 years, said Salehi. The energy minister, too, described the today ceremony as a great success for the Islamic Republic./end
