Iran, Russia Underscore Prolonged Consultations On Regional Issues

Tehran, July 1, IRNA -- Senior Iranian and Russian foreign ministry officials in a meeting in Moscow on Monday underlined the need to utilize both countriesˈ abundant capacities to expand Tehran-Moscow cooperation and consultations about regional and international developments. During the meeting in the Russian capital today, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov underlined that the two countries should continue their discussions and consultations about the developments taking place in the region and the world. During the meeting Amir Abdollahian pointed to the status quo in the relations between Tehran and Moscow, and said, ˈFortunately, the two countries, in addition to having stable relations, also enjoy the capability to have constant consultations on current regional and international developments.ˈ He further reiterated Iran and Russiaˈs sound policies on the Syrian crisis, and saw the meeting with Bogdanov as ˈa good opportunity for discussing the Syrian and Iraqi crisisˈ. The Russian deputy foreign minister, for his part, said Amir Abdollahianˈs visit provided fresh opportunity for discussions between Tehran and Moscow, saying that the two sides should adjust themselves to the fast-changing nature of the conditions of the region. Amir Abdollahian left Tehran for Moscow to discuss the latest regional and international developments, and explore new avenues for promotion of ties in meetings with Russian officials. At the meeting, the two sides also discussed major regional developments, extremism, Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Bahrain, in addition to bilateral relations and particularly Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. Iranian and Russian officials have always stressed the need to utilize all diplomatic means to end the almost 3-year-long bloodshed in Syria. In a meeting between Iranˈs Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanayee and Bogdanov in Moscow in April, the two sides stressed that the only way out of the crisis in Syria is persuading all sides to participate in national dialogue with firm will./end
