Iran seeks secure, stable Iraq

TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Iranian nation and officials are after a secure and stable Iraq with full welfare for all the people of the country. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Iraq's former Vice-President and Deputy Secretary General of Al-Dawa Party Khazir al-Khazaei on Sunday. Stressing that Iran is prudently working toward reinforcing amicable relations among Muslim and Arab countries, Larijani said some countries in the region must behave constructively while acknowledging the importance of bolstering cordial relations among Muslim and Arab countries. Calling unity a 'fundamental must,' Larijani said all Iraqi groups should keep united to counter the political, economic and security crises in the country, underlining that Tehran is prepared to share its experience with Baghdad in this regard. Khazir al-Khazaei, for his part, said the two countries have various religious, cultural and geographical commonalities and enjoy strong relations based on mutual respect and observance of common interests. Pointing to the importance of the Islamic Revolution led by Imam Khomeini (AS), nearly four decades ago, Iraqi official called it a necessary move for the true followers of Islam adding "Imam Khomeini was a person who followed the divine path of prophets." Iraq's former VP, praising the contributions of Islamic Republic of Iran to bring stability and peace in Iraq, noted that forming a secure and stable Iraq with solidarity and prosperity needs more unity among different social and political forces of the country. He also commended Iran’s effective role in restoring stability and peace in Iraq. The official also on Sunday held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and briefed him on the latest political developments in Iraq, particularly the battle against ISIL terrorists.
