Iran, Serbia eager to enhance ties

TEHRAN, Nov. 25 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined the need for further expansion of ties between Iran and Serbia. Speaking during his visit with President of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic here on Tuesday, Zarif said the parliamentary cooperation would prepare grounds for expansion of political-economic ties between the two countries. Throughout the meeting, both sides discussed the latest developments in bilateral relations and explored avenues for the expansion of Tehran-Belgrade relations with an eye to the potential offered by an upcoming joint economic commission for closer trade ties. Highlighting the good grounds for stronger ties with Tehran following the termination of anti-Iran sanctions under JCPOA with the world, Zarif welcomed the presence of Serbian ministers in Iran for a joint economic commission meeting. He said Iran has a positive view on advancement of ties with Serbian Republic and in the post-sanction era, appropriate grounds will be prepared for expansion of bilateral relations. Gojkovic, for her part, said plans for the attendance of several Serbian ministers in the joint economic commission meeting signifies its great significance for the European country. Pointing to her good discussions with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, she said it was decided that parliamentary commissions have more relations with each other. She said Iran and Serbia have historical relations and in addition to bilateral cooperation in the framework of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the two countries had constructive cooperation.
