Iran Speaker: Differences, Divergence Will Not Benefit Iraqi Groups

Tehran, Nov 19, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said here on Monday that given the present critical situation, differences and divergence would benefit none of Iraqi groups or tribes. The speaker made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting head of Iraq’s Kurdistan Islamic Group society Sheikh Ali Bapir. He said at the present juncture, the Iraqi nation will receive the most serious damage from its internal disparity. Stressing the need for consolidating unity and national solidarity in Iraq, he pointed to the present regional conditions and said certain countries are after creating chaos as well as political and security problems in Iraq. Larijani said Iran’s policy is to support development, peace and national unity in Iraq, voicing Iran’s support for all Iraqi political groups and tribes to reinforce national sovereignty, territorial integrity and development process in Iraq. The Iraqi official appreciated Iran’s continued support for unity in Iraq and said it helps promote stability and peace in the region./end
