Iran Supports Syrian Gov't Against Terrorist Sabotage

Tehran, Dec 1, IRNA – First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri sais on Saturday that Iran supports the Syrian government vis-a-vis the western-backed terrorist sabotage against the Syrian government. Jahangiri told Prime Minister of Syria Wael Nader Al-Halqi that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that political dialogue is the only means to stem fighting and bloodshed in Syria and today all regional and the world states have come to understand that it’s the correct choice. “Tehran opposes selective democracy because Syrian people have the right to decide their fate and no one can tell them who should rule them or who should run for presidential elections.” Jahangiri said that Syrian government ’s decision to destroy chemical weapons is a wise decision and is a way to thwart war. Jahangiri voiced regret over support of certain regional and western governments for extremism and violence in Syria . He said the terrorist groups have deprived Syrian people of peace and life, rather they posed threat to the entire region and the Muslim World. Jahangiri said campaign against extremist ideology is the human and Islamic duty of all governments and the international community should not neglect the requirement. He said that Iran will continue with humanitarian assistance to the Syrian refugees, expecting the international community to contribute to their essential needs. He added that Syrian senior officials visit to Tehran would prepare the ground for further cooperation in various spheres. Al-Halqi for his part congratulated the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution, Iranian government and nation on success in reaching agreement with the G5+1 and said, “Your success is the outcome of wisdom and prudence diplomacy and Iranian nation’s perseverance to secure its rights for peaceful use of nuclear energy.” The Syrian prime minister said the agreement gave an outstanding and unique role to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region because Tehran showed that peaceful talks would guarantee security and stability in the region. “We are confident that the agreement would be influential in peaceful settlement of Syrian crisis.” /end
