Iran, Tajikistan broaden cooperation in fight with extremism

Tehran, Feb 19, IRNA - Police Commander Brigadier Esmaeil Ahmadi Moghaddam conferred on Thursday with Tajik Interior Minister and Police Commander Lieutenant-General Ramazan Rahimzadeh on expansion of mutual cooperation. Speaking to reporters, Tajik minister called for expansion of cooperation in fight with extremism, terrorism and drug-trafficking. Issues such as terrorism, extremism, drug-trafficking, smuggling weapons and the organized crime are the common threats posed to the regional countries, he said. Iran's police commander, for his part, referred to historical, cultural and religious affinities between Iran and Tajikistan and said the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to broaden all-out cooperation with Tajikistan. They agreed that the two countries police experts in technical and professional fields to exchange visits in coming months to share their invaluable experience in the fields, Ahmadi Moghaddam said. Grounds for expansion of mutual cooperation are well prepared and Tajik minister inspected on Thursday afternoon various departments and became acquainted with the capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police, he said. Referring to cultural, language, ethnical, literature common grounds along with shared political stands, he said Tajikistan is a friendly country and the Iranian nation attach importance to having such close ties. Referring to terrorism and extremism in central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan and said the issues pose prominent threats to every country and its eradication requires collective contribution among all countries in the region. Iran is ready to broaden mutual and regional security cooperation in fight with the threats mainly in fight with drug-traffickers, terrorism, extremism and control of borders, said the Iranian police commander. The Islamic Republic of Iran successfully overcome economic sanctions and could attain most updated technological achievements, he said. Tajik minister, for his part, referred to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries last year and said expansion of police cooperation is among content of the MoU. Given consolidated ties between the two countries, Tajik minister said sharing common language, religion and culture have brought the two nations much closer. He expressed the hope to make use of Iran's experiences in fight with terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and weapons' smuggling. Tajik police department is to send experts to attend professional educational programs and workshops in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Rahimzadeh said.
