Iran Takes Voluntary Steps In Line With Geneva Action Plan: Kamalvandi

Tehran, Jan 21, IRNA – Iran took voluntary steps in line with Geneva action plan, spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Monday evening. Kamalvandi told IRNA that based on the joint plan of action struck with the western governments on November 24, Iran had to take voluntary steps on January 20 suspending 20 percent uranium enrichment. ˈThe steps were taken concurrent with fulfillment of the EU-G5+1 deal.ˈ ˈThe cascades of 20 percent uranium enrichment were shut down and the centrifuges were driven to five percent uranium enrichment.ˈ He said that the centrifuges were applied for five percent enrichment for the next six months. As for the Arak Heavy Water Reactor facilities, Kamalvandi said the facility which used to be checked on three-month period will be open for IAEA every single month as per a joint statement signed by head of Iran Atomic Energy Organization Ali-Akbar Salehi and IAEA director-general Yukiya Amano. He said that the change at Arak Facilities is limited to the time frame of IAEA inspection./end
