Iran, UN underline continuation of consultations on Syria

Moscow, May 16, IRNA - Senior Advisor to Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari and UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Syria Staffan De Mistura stressed the need for continuing talks focusing on settlement of Syrian crisis. Jaberi Ansari held talks with De Mistura late Tuesday in continuation of bilateral meetings of the Ninth Astana International Conference. During the meeting, they discussed latest developments regarding Astana and Geneva peace talks as well as ratifications of Syria National Dialogue Congress, especially in the field of setting up a Constitutional Committee. Ansari referred to his recent talks with high-ranking Syrian officials, stressing the need for finding a solution to win confidence of all sides. Meanwhile, Ansari and Russian President's Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in a meeting in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, on Monday reviewed the latest political situation in Syria. Iran's senior negotiator in Astana Peace Talks Jaberi Ansari and Lavrentiev in the meeting held talks within the framework of the 9th round of Astana Talks and following recent meeting of foreign ministers of the two countries in Moscow and new military developments in Syria as well as following up approvals of Syria National Dialogue in Sochi and the second meeting of committee on exchange detainees and those kidnapped in Syrian crisis.
