Iran Underlines Active Participation Of NAM Members In Disarmament Meet

New York, March 13, IRNA – Iranˈs permanent representative and head of coordination center for NAM in the United Nations requested members to participate in nuclear disarmament meeting in the UN in the highest possible level. Mohammad Khazaei, by sending letters to all ambassadors and permanent representatives of Non-Aligned Movement member states, asked them to plan so that they would be able to attend the meeting in the highest possible level. Referring to an approved resolution by the UN General Assembly in the year 2012 which was initiated by the NAM, Khazaei stressed that upon the resolution a one-day high ranking meeting is to be held in September in the UN in direction of full nuclear disarmament. He said that the issue of destroying nuclear weapons has been among one of the goals of the movement since its establishment and underlined importance of the meeting and necessity of participation of NAM member states in the highest possible level. Last week, in a consultative meeting of NAM member states in New York to discuss stances of the Movement in preliminary conference to revise Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), head of NAM coordination center in the UN, by expounding on NAM policy toward the disarmament, underlined that the nuclear disarmament is the most important priority for the NAM in the issue of disarmament and that the member states demand a serious move in this concern./end
