Iran Urges Involvement In Probe Into Embassy Bombing In Beirut

Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA – Iranian Justice Minister Mostafa Pour Mohammadi, in a letter to his Lebanese counterpart on Saturday, demanded the involvement of Iranian legal experts in probe into a November 19 attack on the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. In the letter which was presented to Shakib Qortbawi by Irans Ambassador to Beirut, Ghazanfar Roknabadi, the justice minister appreciated efforts made by the Lebanese government and security forces to track down and arrest the culprits behind the terrorist attack, particularly Majid al-Majid, the leader of Abdullah Azzam terrorist group which had officially claimed responsibility for the attack. Tehran expects the brotherly and friendly government of Lebanon to complete the investigation into the incident and bring to justice the culprits at the earliest, Pour Mohammadi said. He called for regional and international cooperation to counter terrorism which is on the rise day by day. The Iranian justice minister voiced Tehran's readiness to help restore peace and security to Lebanon. According to the latest reports Majid al-Majid, the Saudi leader of Abdullah Azzam terrorist group died in hospital today, eight days after he was arrested for carrying out an attack in front of the Iranian embassy in Beirut in November which killed dozens of people, including Iranian cultural attaché in Lebanon and wounding a much larger number of innocent people./end
