Iran urges UN to stop Saudi aggression on Yemen

Tehran, May 11, IRNA – The UN is expected to take effective, precise steps to stop the ongoing massacre of defenseless Yemeni people. The Saudi leaders perpetrated war crimes and blatant breach of the international humanitarian law, Iranian deputy foreign minister said on Monday. Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with new Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Yemen Affairs Ismail Walad Sheikh Ahmad. The the two officials expressed deep concern about deterioration of the humanitarian situation and bloodshed in Yemen. Amir-Abdollahian considered the Saudi aggression on the oppressed and defenseless people of Yemen as 'totally unlawful and barbaric'. He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is willing to ship humanitarian emergency supplies to Yemen and help resolve the crisis. He added that in addition to the United Nations, the international relief organizations should urgently begin assisting the victims of the Saudi crimes against humanity in Yemen and alleviate their pains and sorrows. 'The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for its part to make any move aimed at assisting the oppressed and defenseless people of Yemen,' added Amir-Abdollahian. 'UN highly counts on consultations with Iran to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Yemen,' Sheikh Ahmad said. He ensured the Iranian deputy foreign minister that the UN's efforts in Yemen are aimed at introducing a truce, pave the way for national reconciliation and dialogue, and forwarding of humanitarian aids.
