Iran-US-Ashton Continue Tripartite Talks On Friday

New York, Sept 27, IRNA – Tripartite talks between Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, US Secretary of State John Kerry and EU outgoing foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton continued for the second day here on Friday. The meeting lasted for more than two hours in a completely serious and explicit/direct atmosphere discussing various technical, political and legal aspects of Iran nuclear program as well as the issue of anti-Iran sanctions. Reports described the talks as useful and constructive in general although no remarkable progress was made on the disputed issues. The three agreed to continue their tripartite talks in the future. Meanwhile, a source at Iran's Foreign Ministry said at the end of the meeting that Foreign Minister Zarif, in a meeting with his US counterpart, expressed Tehran's deep concern over the fate of Iranian nationals who have been arrested or prosecuted by the US government. Zarif called for the immediate release of the Iranian nationals, the unnamed source said. Besides the issue of the Iranian nationals kept in the US, Tehran talks on no other subject with the US government not even the issue of extremism or Daesh (ISIS) threats, the source added./end
