Iran: US remarks show its destabilizing policy in ME

TEHRAN, Nov. 08 (MNA) – Iran’s FM spokeswoman Afkham said on Sat. the recent anti-Iranian remarks made by US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter are the sign of the US’ destabilizing policies and measures in the region. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham made the remarks on Saturday in reaction to Carter’s comments during an interview with The Atlantic published on Friday. Carter said in the interview that America’s Arab allies need fewer expensive weapons systems and more will to battle ISIL and Iran on the ground. He called on Persian Gulf states to strengthen their ground forces and form special-operations forces in order to counter ISIL Takfiri terrorists and Iran, adding it would be better for the US and Israel if the Arab states did their weapons shopping in America. “These remarks clearly follow the animosity and cynicism in the region, and given the overwhelming sales of weapons [to Arab countries], reveals the US’ destabilizing policies and measures in the region,” said Afkham. She stressed that Carter’s remarks, more than needing a response from the Islamic Republic, deserves to be addressed by regional Arab states who have been humiliated and insulted in this way; “these words show that from the US official’s point of view, Arab countries are even incapable of using the weapons they need. With this approach, the US has continued its policy on stressing the superiority of Israeli regime over Arab states and deciding on the behalf of all these countries,” she said. “No doubt the Muslim nations in the region and public opinion in the Islamic world will regard these wrong policies with a critical mind and never let their adverse consequences and impacts on the Islamic Ummah be forgotten,” said Afkham.
