Iran Warns Saudi FM Against Enemy Plots

Tehran, Oct 14, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Tuesday reacted to the latest remarks of the Saudi foreign minister cautioning him on enemies' plots and against wasting the chance "to play a positive role in the region". Amir-Abdollahian's warning was made while he was commenting on Saud al-Faisal's recent statements in which he had claimed Iranian forces in Syria are "occupiers". In a comment made after talks with his German counterpart, the Saudi foreign minister said Monday that Iran must withdraw its "occupying" forces from Syria. "If his comments were quoted precisely, then it can be said that they are against the existing atmosphere" in Iran-Saudi diplomatic talks, said the Iranian diplomat. "We suggest Saudi Arabia to be careful about conspiracies made by enemies and do not waste the chance to play a positive role in the region," Amir-Abdollahian told IRNA this morning. Tehran, he stressed, "helps people and governments of Iraq, Syria and the entire region based on legal international frameworks to fight against terrorism." Also touching upon the present situation in Yemen, the Iranian diplomat said it is an "internal affair". As to the political crisis in Bahrain, Amir-Abdollahian said, "If Riyadh had stopped its military presence in Bahrain, it could have been possible to resolve the country's crisis through a diplomatic solution, halt public suppression and have a national reconciliation."/end
