Iran, world powers agree to redesign Arak reactor

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 19 By Khalid Kazimov – Trend: Iran and the P5+1 (the US, the UK, China, Russia, France and Germany) have signed a document to redesign and modernize the Arak heavy water reactor. “We have been informed today that all the foreign ministers of six negotiating countries [the P5+1], as well as the EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini have signed a document on redesigning and modernizing the Arak heavy water reactor,” IRNA agency quoted Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, as saying Nov. 19. “Now, the way has been paved for implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA],” he added. “Under the JCPOA, the opposite side was expected to give us guarantee for cooperating in redesigning of the Arak reactor,” he said. Salehi added that the document is credible on an international scale as the six countries, as well as the EU have signed it.
