Iranian military official warns of Mongol-type invasion by terrorists

TEHRAN,July 12(MNA) -- A top Iranian military commander has warned that the world should be prepared for possible invasion by terrorists like what Mongols did in the 13th century. Major General Hassan Firouzabadi, the armed forces chief of staff, was indirectly referring to different terrorist groups, especially ISIL operatives, who have launched savage attacks on the people in Iraq and Syria. “Today, it is not just the matter of deterrence, rather (it is) the issue of countering Mongol-type invasions which one should be prepared for them,” Firouzabadi noted. According to unconfirmed reports terrorists from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have occupied a third of Iraq’s territory. They invaded Iraq from Syria. ISIL, which is more cruel than other al-Qaeda affiliated groups, has recruited militants from around the world including European countries and Russia. “This was a plot which was carried out. Reactionary rulers in the region which felt threatened by the ‘revolutionary Islam’ made an agreement and deceived these forces (terrorists) from across the world and brought them to Syria and then to Iraq and after that to Africa,” the military official noted. Firouzabadi said the threats by these terrorist groups like ISIL are more serious than the ones posed by Israel. “This is a serious threat; this is a threat greater than Israel’s threats. This is a real threat by the U.S. and Britain.” The top general said cultural efforts and diplomatic initiatives at the regional level are needed to put an end to the dangers posed by these groups.
