Iranian Tanker Company Confirms EU Court Decision To Annul Sanctions

Tehran, July 6, IRNA – Managing Director of National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) on Saturday confirmed reports about EU decision to remove the company from the list of sanctions. The General Court of the European Union on July 3 annulled sanctions imposed on NITC by the European Commission. Ali-Akbar Safaei said if the European Commission does not appeal against the ruling of the court in two months, NITC will be completely removed from the sanctions list. NITC was listed in 2012, Safaei said. ˈFortunately, after a year of efforts to prove that ECˈs reasons for sanctioning the company were wrong, the court finally decided that the Commission had no evidence to support its allegations against NITC.ˈ When all foreign ships stopped traveling to Iranian waters because of sanctions, NITC made all its efforts to help boost the countryˈs exports, he said. With formation of new Iranian government under President Hassan Rouhani, and his reaching out to the world, and following the Geneva Deal last November between Iran and the West, necessary plans have been devised to prepare the ground for NITCˈs strong return to the European markets, he added. However, he noted that it takes time to reach this goal./end
