Iranian, Turkmen president discuss bilateral ties

Tehran, Aug 5, IRNA – President Hassan Rowhani and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in a meeting in Tehran discussed bilateral ties and mutual cooperation. During the meeting in Tehran on Sunday, the Iranian and Turkmen presidents underlined the need for the further expansion of bilateral ties between Tehran and Ashgabad. During the meeting, Rowhani thanked Berdimuhamedov for his participation in his inauguration ceremony, calling it a sign of strong will of Turkmen nation and government to further expand ties with Iran. Rowhani emphasized on bolstering trade and economic relations between Iran and Turkmenistan, completion of Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railway. The Turkmen president, for his part, appreciated Rowhani for his wise stances vis-à-vis expansion of ties between Iran and Turkmenistan, and said, “Turkmenistan has always supported Islamic Republic of Iran’s stances in international arenas and it will do so in the future.” Berdimuhamedov pointed to good and friendly relations between Iran and Turkmenistan calling for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral ties in political, economic and cultural areas. Berdimuhamedov arrived in Tehran on Sunday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian president on Sunday afternoon.
