Iranian Welfare Islamic Party Calls For Sheikh al-Namarˈs Freedom

Tehran, June 29, IRNA – Secretary-General of the Iranian Welfare Islamic Party called on the Saudi government to stop execution of the Shia Scholar Sheikh Baqer al-Namar and make arrangements for his freedom. Talking to IRNA, Hassan Allahverdinejad referred to the recent meeting of the party, saying that members of the party expressed concern over the death sentence against Sheikh al-Namar. He noted that given the advent of the holy month of Ramadan as the month of mercy and unity for the Muslims, the Saudi King is expected to annul the death sentence for the sake of unity among Shia and Sunni Muslims. He urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to seek clemency from the Saudi government for the Shia religious leader. He said that the Zionists are the only one to benefit from carrying the death sentence. Allahverdinejad described Sheikh al-Namar as an outstanding figure in Muslim World, whose death will deal an irreparable blow to Islam. Al-Namar was detained in 2012 following a protest by the Saudi Shia Muslims./end
