Iran's Electoral Process Reflects True Democratic Spirit: Pakistani MP

Islamabad, March 4, IRNA – A Pakistani parliamentarian on Saturday lauded the election process in Iran and said that it had reflected the democratic spirit of Iranian society. Talking to IRNA, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said that democracy is flourishing in Iran without any difficulty. The politician said that elections in Iran would further strengthen democracy in the Islamic Republic. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader said that democratic elements in Pakistan have rendered sacrifices for establishing democracy in the country and 'we welcome democratic process any where in world.' Iran has witnessed a huge turnout in parliamentary elections. The elections aimed to fill 290 seats in Majlis. Earlier Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had said that the Iranian nation will demonstrate its firm will to fight enemies by massive participation in the parliamentary elections. Aitzaz Ahsan said that democracy is very stable in Iran and the people are free to elect their representatives. Former minister for interior expressing his views said Iran and Pakistan are very close friends and people of Pakistan are happy over the flourishing democracy in Iran. The Senator went on to say that Pakistan is the well wisher of Iran and will always want to see Iran as a prosperous country. “We enjoy strong cordial relations with our brother Iran,” said the lawmaker. The politician was of the view that relations between Iran and Pakistan are not confined to the outcome of the elections. “Iran has its own kind of democracy which is different form the western democracy but has been supported by the Iranian nation,' Aitzaz Ahsan stated./end
