Iran's PG Maneuvers Not Pursuing Strait of Hormuz' Closure: Envoy

Paris, Jan 16, IRNA – Islamic Republic of Iran's new ambassador to France, Ali Ahani, said on Sunday that Tehran is not pursuing the closing of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf region. Addressing a gathering of Iran Embassy personnel in Paris, Ahani noted that the main purpose for holding military drills such as Velayat-90 Maneuver in the southern waters of the country is to enhance the military capabilities in defending Iran's territorial integrity. Referring to the fact that the enemies of Iran are trying to create chaotic atmosphere in the country, the diplomat pointed out that conducting these military maneuvers are in line with safeguarding the country and also to provide regional security. 'In spite of all-out pressures and plots in the recent decades by western countries, the regional and international status of the Islamic Republic of Iran is improving day-by-day,' Ahani said while referring to unusual machinations by Western media against Iran. Noting that although the enemies have joined hands to make the atmosphere more poisonous against the Islamic Republic, Ahani pointed out that despite all these efforts Iran has a unique status among international bodies such as Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Ahani will submit his credentials to French Foreign Ministry soon./end
