Iran`s police chief defends fuel price rise in decreasing road rage

TEHRAN, April 23 (MNA) – National Police Chief Esmaeil Ahmadi Moqadam defended increasing petrol prices, saying it leads people to turn to public transport and decrease road rage instead. “We agree with increasing the price of fuel so that public transport is promoted and road fatalities decrease,” Ahmadi Moqadam told a seminar on road traffic. He also said one of the most important indicators of development in a society is decrease in road accidents. “Through this one can assess the level of development in a country.” He also said no country would succeed to reduce road fatalities greatly through enactment of “rigid” rules, adding reducing road accidents is highly dependent on a society’s economic, scientific and cultural progress.
