Iran's Road Min. Urges New Investment For IKIA Development

Tehran, Sept 9, IRNA -- Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi underlined the need for new investment to develop Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA). Speaking in an interview with IRNA, the minister said: “Through formation of investment projects fund and selling bonds we intend to prepare the ground for presence of the private sector in implementation of development projects for the airport.” Referring to the shortage of airport facilities in the country, especially in the capital city, he said efforts were made by governments in recent years to transfer Hajj flights to IKIA, and the flights were eventually transferred to Imam Khomeini airport this year. He said there were limited facilities at Mehrabad Airport for Hajj flights, adding that facilities at IKIA were much better, hoping that satisfaction of Hajj pilgrims would be maintained in this regard this year./end
