Iraqi foreign minister urges more countries to join anti-IS fight

MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. The fight against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group needs to involve more countries that have experience in countering terrorism, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said on Thursday. "The more countries join the anti-terrorism fight, the better. Especially, if these are the countries that have faced this problem. As it knows no borders like fire," al-Jaafari said in an interview with Russian television channel RT. "Terrorism has spread from Syria to Iraq and may go further. That’s why it is important to unite international counterterrorism efforts," the foreign minister said, adding however that Iraq will not cooperate with the countries that "support, train or finance gunmen." In his speech at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for creating a broad anti-terrorism coalition that would fight against the Islamic State (IS) group in cooperation with Syria’s authorities based on the international law and the UN Charter.
