IRGC : Liberation Of Khorramshahr Marks Defeat Of Baathist-Zionist Alliance

Tehran, May 23, IRNA – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said on Tuesday that liberation of Khorramshahr from occupation of US-backed Saddam’s regime in 1982 indicated national strength and empowered the defense capability of the Islamic Republic of Iran. IRGC said in a statement on the eve of anniversary of liberation of Khorramshahr which falls on May 23 this year that the auspicious event opened a new chapter in the history of eight-year sacred defense (1980-1988). “Liberation of Khorramshahr defeated Baathist-Zionist alliance creating a new balance of power for the future of the Middle East and worrying the United States.” The statement said that the victory over Baathist-Zionist alliance proved that the materialist powers cannot stand the power of faith, morality and sacrifice and the faithful resistance of the Iranian nation to trans-regional alliance of the enemies helped liberate Khorramshahr. The IRGC paid tribute to late Imam Khomeini who mobilized Iranian volunteer forces to liberate the sacred land of Khorramshahr 578 days after its occupation. The IRGC statement honored memory of brave combatants of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the martyrs who stood up to liberate their homeland from foreign occupation./end
