Irish Parliament Speaker's Tuesday Tehran visit 1st in 2 decades

Tehran, Sept 30, IRNA – Irish Parliament Speaker Sean Barrett is scheduled to visit Iran as of tomorrow, the first such visit in two decades that according to experts will be significant improvement of in bilateral relations, and especially parliamentary relations. In this visit the Irish Speaker Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett will after his arrival on Tuesday have a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Larijani and some other meetings with a number of Iranian officials, according to the Iranian Parliament's International Affairs Adviser. Ala'eddin Boroujerdi said that if the present day status of our country in relations with the EU and the West will continue the way they are, we will be witnesses to improvement of relations with Ireland in political and economic fields. 'Keeping in mind the provision of a positive atmosphere about our country in the international scene after coming to power of President Hassan Rouhani's government, Ireland, too, following the approach of the EU countries and the United States in establishing interactions with Iran, began moves aimed at establishment of new relations with Iran after two decades of relatively full halt,' he said. Before the Irish Parliament Speaker, during the course of the past year the head of the foreign relations committee of that parliament, a former Irish prime minister and current deputy head of Foreign Ministry's Middle East Department have visited Iran, hoping for revival of the past good ties with our country. Also, members of the Iranian Parliament's Iran-Ireland Friendship group visited Dublin during the last days of the summer./end
