Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union Troika To Meet On Gaza

Tehran, July 20, IRNA – Senior parliamentarian Kazem Jalali said the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union troika is to meet in Tehran July 22 to discuss the situation in Gaza. Talking to reporters on Sunday, he said several parliament speakers are to take part in the Tehran meeting which is set to explore ways of defending the Palestinian nation. The troika meeting is to open in Saˈdabad Palace on Tuesday, he noted. Jalali condemned the Zionist regime for its atrocities against the people in Gaza. He noted that the Zionist regime has been denying access to all kinds of supplies including foodstuff, medicine and humanitarian aid to the Strip for many years now. Stressing that the Gaza people are suffering from severe plight at present, he said the Israeli crimes are taking place in the holy month of Ramadan resulting in martyrdom of hundreds of fasting people including defenseless women and children. Member of parliamentˈs National Security and Foreign Policy Commission further regretted that the Zionistsˈ crimes were met with the silence of international organizations and even the backing of a number of world leaders. He noted that amidst this deadly silence even by a number of Islamic organizations, the Iranian Majlis is hosting the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union troika to voice support for the defenseless Gazans. Parliament speakers of Iran, Sudan, Mali, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Palestine along with a delegation from the Lebanese parliament have already voiced readiness to take part in the meeting, he said. According to Jalali, MPs from Algeria, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Malaysia and Indonesia have also been invited to the one-day event./end
