ISOC prepares safety measures for Songkran festival

BANGKOK, April 1 (TNA) -- The new spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) has elaborated on measures to promote public safety during the upcoming Songkran festival. ISOC newly appointed spokesperson Peerawat Saengthong told reporters at the army headquarters on April 1 that the ISOC was coordinating safety campaigns with government officials, police, soldiers, villagers and operators. The parties were asked to report any suspicious movements that could lead to serious situations in the country for the sake of prevention, he said. The ISOC was emphasizing intelligence and taking nothing for granted and would secure venues of Songkran celebrations and major transport routes, Col Peerawat said. He also said that comprehensive security measures were implemented in violence-plagued southern border provinces. On April 1, Col Peerawat succeeded Maj Gen Banpote Punpian as the ISOC spokesman. He met reporters and also distributed Thai and English-language copies of a report on a negotiation process to restore peace in the deep South to reporters. (TNA)
