Jahangiri Confers With Chilean FM, Hopes For Setting Up Chile Representation In Iran

Santa Cruz, Bolivia, June 16, IRNA – Iranian First Vice-President Esˈhaq Jahangiri Sunday night expressed hope that the Chilean representation will open in Iran. Jahangiri made the remarks in a meeting with Chilean Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz on the sidelines of a G77+China summit in Bolivia. The economic relations between the two countries were satisfactory in the past, but have been slow in recent years, Jahangiri said. He expressed hope that President Bacheletˈs return to power in Chile will help promotion of Tehran-Santiago economic relations. Referring to government of President Hassan Rouhaniˈs new approach to the world, the vice-president said Iran wants enhanced relations with all countries around the world, industrialized countries in particular. On nuclear talks between Iran and the six world nations, Jahangiri said the talks have made good progress. He criticized double standards of the western governments about nuclear activities of different countries, saying, ˈthere are countries possessing nuclear bomb in our region that are not signatories to the NPT and there are no supervision on their activities.ˈ He criticized extremism and violence in the Middle East region, particularly the cold-blood arbitrary killing of innocent people and the summary executions in Iraq by the Daesh terrorist group. The Chilean foreign minister, for his part, lauded the old history and civilization of the Iranian nation and their great achievements in different fields of science and technology. Referring to close relations between Iran and Chile in the past, Muñoz called for further promotion of bilateral ties. Underlining the need for efforts by both Iran and Chile to complete joint projects in different fields, including the mining sector, he called for removal of some technical obstacles on the way of economic cooperation. He said that Iran has a good market and significant influence in the region, and therefore, Chile is keen to broaden ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran./end
