Japan Regrets U.S. Withdrawal from Iran Nuclear Deal

Tokyo, May 9 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government expressed regret on Wednesday over the United States' decision to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. It would be "extremely discouraging" if Washington's decision has a major impact that makes the continuation of the nuclear deal difficult, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference. "Japan pays close attention to the situation while carefully analyzing possible influence" that the United States' decision may cause, Suga said. In a statement, Foreign Minister Taro Kono said that Japan "continues to support" the deal and "will remain in close communication with relevant parties to maintain" it. Kono also said that the country "hopes for constructive actions by relevant parties." END
