Japan, S. Korea, U.S. to Hold Talks on N. Korea

Seoul, Jan. 11 (Jiji Press)--South Korea on Monday said top negotiators for six-way talks from South Korea, Japan and the United States will hold a meeting in Seoul on Wednesday following North Korea's nuclear test last week. The meeting will bring together Kimihiro Ishikane, director-general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Sung Kim, U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for Japan and Korea, and Hwang Joon-kook, South Korea's special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs. The three negotiators for the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear programs are expected to confirm the three countries' cooperation and discuss an expected U.N. Security Council resolution to strengthen international sanctions on North Korea. Hwang will visit Beijing on Thursday to meet with his Chinese counterpart. South Korea is also arranging a meeting with the Russian top negotiator for the six-way talks. The South Korean foreign ministry said it will take resolute action to make North Korea pay the price for the nuclear test, in close cooperation with the international community including the four partners in the six-way talks.
