Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla Win Indonesia's 2014 Presidential Election

JAKARTA, July 23 (Bernama) -- Presidential candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and his running mate Jusuf Kalla "JK" have won Indonesia's 2014 presidential election as announced by the General Election Commission (KPU) here on Tuesday night, reports Indonesia's Antaranews.com. Jokowi-JK secured 70,990,832 votes or 53.15 percent of the total 133,567,276 of the national valid votes. His rival, Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa, received 62,576,444 votes or 46.85 percent. According to Antara, KPU was mandated by the constitution to officially announce the election result Tuesday. The elected president and vice president, Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla, will be inaugurated on Oct 24, before serving a five-year term. Jokowi is Jakarta's governor and a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), and JK is a former vice president, businessman, and a seniorpolitician of the Golkar Party, Antara reported. Jusuf Kalla is a former vice president in 2004-2009 period and ongoing chairman of Indonesian Red Cross and Indonesian Mosque Council. The Jokowi-JK pair is supported by five political parties: the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), the Justice and Indonesian Unity Party (PKPI), and the National Democrats Party (Nasdem). The Prabowo-Hatta pair is supported by Gerindra, PAN, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the United Development Party (PPP), the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), and the Golkar Party. -- BERNAMA
