Jordan, Russia diplomats to discuss Mideast conflicts - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, January 23. /TASS/. Jordan’s new Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi will pay a working visit to Russia on Tuesday, January 24, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday. "On the same day, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with the head of the Jordanian foreign ministry," it said, adding that the ministers are expected to discuss topical issues on the international and regional agenda within the context of numerous conflict situations the Middle East region is witnessing. "The Syrian dossier will be top on the agenda," the ministry said. "We keep in mind our common interest in an early settlement of this biggest for today armed conflict. Its consequences directly affect the neighboring Jordan, which has received more than 600,000 Syrian refugees on its territory," the ministry noted. "The situation in Jordan’s neighbor Iraq will be another key issue for discussion given a terrorist threat from ISIS (former name of Islamic State terrorist group outlawed in Russia) coming from there. With this in view, Moscow and Amman support actions of the Iraqi government towards liquidating a hotbed of trans-border terrorism on its soil," it went on. The two diplomats will also look into the situation with the Palestinian-Israeli settlement in the light of efforts by the international community to launch a stable negotiating process. "Contribution to overcoming an intra-Palestinian split is a major component of these efforts," the ministry said. "A recent meeting of representatives from all main Palestinian organizations, including Fatah and Hamas was a practical contribution of Russia to the settlement of this priority task," the ministry said.
