Katouzian gives up campaign for run-off Iran`s parliamentary election

TEHRAN, March 7 (MNA) – Hamidreza Katouzian, who failed to win a parliamentary seat in the first round of election in the Tehran constituency, has given up a run-off campaign. Tehran is represented by 30 MPs in the Majlis. In March 2 parliamentary election, only five candidates were elected to the parliament. According to the law, a parliamentary candidate must garner one fourth of votes to be elected lawmaker. Katouzian is among the 50 candidates who have to campaign in the runoff. Katouzian won 160.639 votes. Katouzian, a critic of the Ahmadinejad government, campaigned under the banner of “the Voice of Nation”. Katouzian is currently the chairman of the Majlis Energy Committee. In the previous parliament, he was the chairman of the Industries Committee.
