Kazakhstan and EU prepare new agreement on enhanced cooperation

Baku, Azerbaijan, May 16 By Elena Kosolapova - Trend: Kazakhstan and the EU are preparing the new agreement on enhanced cooperation and partnership. The sixth round of negotiations on the new agreement was held on May 13-14, 2014 in Astana. The delegations of the both parties headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Volkov from Kazakhstan and European External Action Service's Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE Gunnar Wiegand from the EU discussed almost all the items of the draft agreement, covering the issues of political, legal, trade, investment, economic, and humanitarian cooperation. During the talks, Kazakhstan and the EU agreed on a significant number of issues and reached a high level of understanding on all the items of the document. The next round of negotiations on the new agreement will take place year in Brussels in the summer. Within the visit to Kazakhstan, Gunnar Wiegand met with Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov. Within the meeting the parties discussed issues of mutual interest and prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union following the signing of the new agreement. Edited by C.N.
