Kazakhstan's L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University awards Amal Al Qubaisi honorary doctorate

ASTANA, 2nd June 2016 (WAM) – Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) was conferred an honorary doctorate by the prestigious L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. The university awarded the honorary title to Dr. Al Qubaisi in recognition of her pioneering efforts in the political, educational, cultural and academic fields and for being the first woman in the Arab world and the Middle East to head a parliamentary body. The university also cited Dr. Al Qubaisi's endeavours in women and youth development, human rights, environment and energy. In a lecture she gave yesterday at the university in Astana following the award ceremony, Dr. Al Qubaisi said the UAE's wise leadership had realised early that education was the main engine for progress and that nations are built by their qualified, innovative and skilled human resources. "The UAE has already prepared for the post-oil era by investing in its people, in knowledge and advanced technology. Our prudent leadership has attached great importance to building capabilities of tomorrow's pioneers," she added.
