Kenyan Top Journalist Says West's Sanctions Against Iran, Ineffective

Tehran, Nov. 1, IRNA – Senior political writer at Kenya's Standard Newspaper, Abdikadir Sugow, says western sanctions cannot have any effect on powerful Iran. "Iran is self-sufficient and can well manage the sanctions," said Sugow in an interview with IRNA on the sidelines of the 19th International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies, which is currently underway at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini grand prayer ground. Sugow said Iran has now facilities that are unique in their kind worldwide, proving that it can well leave behind any sanction effects. He said there are some facilities in Iran incomparable to those in the UK and Australia. He said Iranians are busy and Iran is moving, pretty showing that the country can overcome the sanction effects. On the exhibition, he said he was impressed by it, which provided him with an opportunity to meet other news agency officials in Iran and other parts of the world. Elsewhere in the interview, he commented on Iran's nuclear program and said like any other country it has the right to have it for its own needs. The exhibition is hosting some 2,380 Persian dailies, magazines and periodicals while about 50 pavilions have been dedicated to international section. The exhibition also includes a temporary museum displaying history of Iranian journalism on the sidelines of the event. A collection of the earliest Iranian newspapers and magazines is on display in the museum pavilion. The 19th International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies runs until November 3./end
