Kerry Remains Hopeful On Resolving Iran Nuclear Issue

Berlin, Oct 23, IRNA -- US Secretary of State John Kerry here Wednesday said he was still hopeful that the Iranian nuclear standoff could be resolved. Speaking at a news conference with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Kerry reiterated his hope that the gaps in the Iranian nuclear row could be bridged. We are hopeful and we are working very hard, he said. While he did not want to rate the current Iran nuclear talks, Kerry said the negotiations were 'serious and intense.' He hailed the Iranian negotiation team as 'knowledgeable and tough.' Kerry added both sides 'understand what is needed' to come to an agreement. Asked whether the US government would bypass the Congress to reach a deal with Iran, Kerry said the US administration and Congress are involved in 'serious and deep' discussions on the matter. Kerry did make clear however that President Barack Obama had the authority to suspend sanctions against Iran as this could be the necessary way to move forward the negotiation process./end
