Khalaf Khalafov: Convention puts emphasis on Caspian littoral states` cooperation in preventing terrorism and other crimes

Baku, August 15, AZERTAC Azerbaijan`s deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov has said the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, which was recently signed in Aktau, puts emphasis on the littoral countries` cooperation in preventing terrorism and other crimes. In an exclusive interview with AZERTAC, he said: “The Convention says that the parties shall cooperate in combating international terrorism and financing thereof, trafficking in arms, drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, as well as poaching, and in preventing and suppressing smuggling of migrants by sea and other crimes in the Caspian Sea.” “At the fifth Caspian Summit in Aktau the littoral states also signed documents on cooperation in the field of combating organized crime in the Caspian Sea, on trade and economic cooperation, on cooperation in the field of transport, on prevention of incidents in the Caspian Sea and on cooperation and interaction of border agencies,” said Khalafov. “This demonstrates how much importance the Caspian littoral states attach to the issues of security and economic cooperation in the sea,” he added.
