Kim Il Sung, Iron-willed Commander

Pyongyang, July 5 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung is an iron-willed commander who led the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War to victory and inspired the world progressive people to the vigorous anti-U.S. struggle. Ex-President of Portugal Francisco Da Costa Gomes, who was the chief of staff of the Portuguese forces stationed in Macao during the Korean War, said: All the U.S. operational plans at that time were worked out after repeated discussions by state heads and chiefs of staffs and many other generals of the U.S. and its allies, Western countries. But, General Kim Il Sung frustrated all of them single-handedly. Witnessing this fact, I came to realize that he is the great commander, the one and only gifted strategist in the world. As Gomes said, the victory in the war was that of President Kim Il Sung's military strategies and tactics. His war strategies and tactics included consecutive offensive, combined operation of large and small units, night action, assault, formation of the second front, siege warfare and position warfare. Under his guidance such war movements were also conducted as sniper-team movement, direct-firing gun movement, aircraft-hunting team movement and tank-hunting team movement. In the three-year war provoked by the U.S. imperialist aggressors, the DPRK army and people commanded by Kim Il Sung killed or captured at least 1 567 120 enemy troops, including 405 490 GIs, and seized or damaged 12 220 planes, 3 250 tanks and armored vehicles and many other pieces of military and combat technical equipment. The DPRK's victory in the war was of historic significance as it shattered the myth of the U.S. imperialism's "mightiness" and ushered in a new era of anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. struggle on a worldwide scale. -0-
