Kim Il Sung's Feats for Building Independent National Economy

Pyongyang, July 9 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung in his lifetime had paid big efforts to building the independent national economy. After the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953), which reduced everything of the country to ruins, he set it as the basic line for socialist economic construction to give priority to the growth of heavy industry while simultaneously developing the light industry and agriculture. And he aroused all the people to a drive for building an independent national economy under the banner of self-reliance. True to his intention, the Korean people carried out the historic task of socialist industrialization in 14 years, though the U.S. imperialists vouched that Korea would not be able to stand on its feet even in a hundred years, and advanced dynamically along the road of self-reliance. Consequently, the DPRK emerged an independent country with its unique structure of self-supporting economy, arousing admiration from among the developing countries desirous of independence. In April Juche 54 (1965), the then Indonesian president stated at a meeting held in presence of Kim Il Sung that the DPRK was not shackled to any other country for its full-fledged independent national economy. The former vice-speaker of the Russian State Duma praised the DPRK as a successful nation in building socialism, saying that all those countries which joined the SEV could not but go bankrupt, but only the DPRK could defend socialism for its independent national economy. Thanks to the independent national economy provided by Kim Il Sung, the DPRK people are now vigorously advancing toward the building of an economic power on the principle of priority to self-development, despite the U.S.-led imperialists' persistent economic blockades. -0-
