Kish To Host Asian-African Confab On Mycobacteriology

Tehran, Sept 9, IRNA - The First Asian-African Conference of Mycobacteriology will be held in Kish Island, southern Iran from March 7 to 11, 2015. The congress, themed ‘Mycobacterium and Related Diseases’, will review and highlight the latest developments in mycobacterium disease, particularly those caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis, mycobacterium bovis and non-tuberculosis mycobacterium (NTM). The latest advances and innovations in basic and clinical mycobacteriology will be presented by scientists from all over the world. Khan-Sokhan, senior consultant for National TB Program (SSA), Cambodia, Nalin- Rastogi, Tuberculosis & Mycobacteria Unit, Institut Pasteur, France, Stefano-Aliberti, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, Italy, Sven-Hoffner, Department of Microbiology, Unit for Highly Pathogenic Bacteria, Sweden, Dick-van Soolingen, National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the Netherlands, and Stefan-Niemann, Molecular Mycobacteriology Group, National Reference Center for Mycobacteria, and Microbial Inflammation Research, Germany are among the keynote speakers of the conference. This event will: • Facilitate the exchange of ideas and information through scientific meetings. • Review the new diagnostic tests that may upgrade rapid detection of mycobacterium. • Improve diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mycobacterium diseases. • Focus on cooperation and participation with governmental and non-governmental agencies in matters of common interest. The Asian-African Society of Mycobacteriology (AASM) award is dedicated to scientists conducting excellent research in the field of mycobacteriology. There will be one gold ($5,000) and three silver ($2,500) awards which will be presented at the congress and the awardees will be given the opportunity to present their works. Selection criteria will be based on the scientific and technological quality of the work, publications and innovative new concepts/ideas. The award will go to the first or corresponding author of an abstract. The official language of the congress for the presentation and discussion of all papers is English. AASM is a non-profit, scientific organization whose mission is to establish unilateral, bilateral and multilateral networks of scientific research and training among experts from AASM countries. The AASM is committed to: Establishing a network of laboratories with the aim of increasing quality control and quality assurance within the inter- and intra-region AASM countries. Improving diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mycobacterial diseases. Reviewing and conducting new-diagnostic tests that upgrade the rapid detection of mycobacterium.
