Korean Peninsula issue can only be resolved through mutual concessions - senior Russian diplomat

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. The problem of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula can only be solved on the basis of mutual concessions, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told TASS on Wednesday, commenting on remarks by US National Security Adviser John Bolton. Bolton said after the Hanoi summit that Washington would not "buy the same pony that they’ve sold to previous administrations" and called on North Korea to reassess its strategy. "We are certain that a sustainable solution to the problem of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is only possible on the basis of a mutual balance of interests and mutual concessions, if you will," Ryabkov stressed. "The issue of lifting sanctions imposed on North Korea is of particular relevance today." According to the senior Russian diplomat, Moscow wishes every success to Washington and Pyongyang in their efforts to find common ground. "We believe that the Hanoi meeting helped the parties to understand each other’s stances better," he said. "We caution the United States against any attempts to whip up tensions around the Korean Peninsula or use threats of various kinds," Ryabkov stressed. "This is certainly not the path that can ultimately lead to the solution everyone needs." Read more
