Kremlin spokesman says Russia’s only plan in Syria is to facilitate peaceful resolution of conflict

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. Russia’s only plan in Syria is to facilitate the peaceful resolution of the conflict, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday. Answering a question on whether Russia has "Plan B" similar to Washington’s "Plan B" in case ceasefire in Syria is disrupted, Peskov said: "The Russian side has one coherent plan - to facilitate by all means the peaceful resolution of the Syrian problem, to consistently fight against terrorism and assist legitimate Syrian authorities in this." The Kremlin spokesman noted that the process of settlement in Syria should be inclusive and take into account the interests of national and religious groups in this country. Peskov also refused to comment on the reports that the United States has "Plan B" regarding Syria. The ceasefire between government forces and armed opposition took effect in Syria at 00:00 Damascus Time on February 27. An hour before the agreement entered into force, UN Security Council adopted a resolution in support of cessation of hostilities in Syria. The first round of inter-Syrian talks finished on March 24. The next round of negotiations should start later in April, though several delegations may join later, according to de UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura. Read more
