Kuwaiti FM: Iraq Disintegration Dangerous

Tehran, July 9, IRNA – Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sabah al-Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah stressed the need for maintaining Iraqˈs unity and territorial integrity, saying that Iraqˈs disintegration is dangerous. In a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, he added, ˈWe believe in fighting terrorism and Kuwaitˈs policy in this regard is in conformity with Iraqˈs Constitution.ˈ He underlined the need for maintaining the countryˈs unity and continuing current political trend based on Iraqˈs Constitution. He also stressed the need for expediting the election of parliament speaker, president and prime minister of Iraq, saying that delays in holding parliamentary session will not contribute to the situation in the country. Al-Sabah also said his country attaches paramount importance to consultations with Iran on regional issues such as Iraq. Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, described recent terrorist developments in Iraq as dangerous for the region and world, underscoring the need for international communityˈs cooperation to counter the evil phenomenon of terrorism. Maintaining Iraqˈs political unity and territorial integrity based on its Constitution are among principles of Iranˈs policies regarding Iraq, he said. There is a single democratically-elected government in Iraq which should not be undermined through violence and extremism, he said. Mechanism of recent terrorist attacks on Iraq is indicative of existence of foreign elements behind the offensives, he said, warning of continuation of such a trend in case of other countriesˈ silence. Iraqˈ neighbors should pay heed to the issue that terrorism may spill over to other countries and it will show mercy to no one, the deputy foreign minister said. ˈIran is alongside Iraq in fighting terrorism and calm in that country and other regional states such as Kuwait and Saudi Arabia is important to us,ˈ he said./end
