Lankan Deputy FM In Tehran For 16th NAM Summit

Tehran, Aug 26, IRNA – Sri Lankan Deputy Foreign Minister Neomal Perera, heading a delegation, arrived here Sunday to participate in the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Upon his arrival at Imam Khomeini international airport, Perera told IRNA that the upcoming NAM Summit indicates the elite position of the Islamic Republic across the globe. He said Iran is considered as one of the active members of NAM. On Iran's international and regional status, he condemned the intensification of the US-led pressures against the Islamic Republic. He reiterated that holding the summit in Tehran proves that the country enjoys a significant position in the entire world. The experts meeting of the 16th NAM summit was officially started here Sunday morning with a speech by Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi. Some 107 delegates are attending the experts meeting. The two-day meeting will be followed by the meeting of NAM foreign ministers on August 28-29 and the summit is to be held on August 30-31./end
