Larijani: 9th Parliamentary Election, A Good Lesson For West

Tehran, March 5, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said here on Monday that the results of the 9th parliamentary elections in Iran, held on Friday March 5, teach a good lesson to the West. Making the remark during a Majlis open session this morning, he said the massive turnout of people in the elections proved the hollowness of certain analyses and showed that the nation well safeguarded its national and Islamic values and interests. He said that the West, after long sanctions and threats, launched severe anti-Iran propaganda to disappoint the people and discourage them from taking part in the elections with the false assumption that this would lead to more convergence in the global scene to exert pressures on Iran. Referring to the desecration of the Holy Quran by the US occupying forces in Afghanistan, the speaker further said burning the holy book of Muslims in large numbers just indicated what primitive brutes American forces are. Larijani reiterated that the Iranian parliament condemned the vicious act of the US forces in insulting the Holy Quran. He further advised the US President Barack Obama not to play with the sentiments of the Muslim nations and not keep repeating threats against Iran. Elsewhere in his remarks, the speaker condemned the recent comments of the British Foreign Secretary William Hague and said his statements were all nonsense and unwise. Larijani said the British minister’s remarks well proved that the Iranian Majlis rightly decided to cut ties with the UK because the behavior of the British officials indicated their backwardness and inability to discern realities./end
