Larijani: Bullying Powers Taking Advantage Of Terrorism

Tehran, Feb 18, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said big powers are using the issue of terrorism as tactical means. He made the remark here Tuesday morning in his opening address to the 9th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC). He said terrorism and hegemony are the two blades of one single pair of scissors that are causing calamities for the Islamic Ummah. Pointing to the high potentials the Islamic world enjoys today in technological and scientific areas especially in the energy sector, he noted that many Muslim states have an invaluable geopolitical position. He said the Islamic Ummah could use all these potentials against the greed of the big powers provided that it adopts far-sighted and long-term programs to build a dignified future. Larijani further expressed his gratitude to parliament speakers of the Islamic world for accepting Iranˈs invitation to take part in the present meeting. As the 9th Session of the PUIC started work in the Iranian capital this morning, the union presidency was submitted to Larijani by his Sudanese counterpart Al-Fateh Ezzedin. Some 28 parliament speakers as well as parliamentary delegations from the member countries are attending the PUIC gathering. Niger and Tunisia, as representatives of African and Arab states, respectively will act as vice-presidents of the union for a year. PUIC, having 53 members, was established in 1999 with the objective of strengthening parliamentary relations among the member states./end
