Larijani Condemns UN Chiefˈs Anti-Iran Report

Tehran, March 15, IRNA – Speaker of the Iranian parliament (Majlis) on Saturday condemned a recent anti-Iran human rights report by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, terming the report as ˈshameful.ˈ On March 11, the UN chief in a new report to the UN human rights council, accused President Hassan Rouhaniˈs administration of having failed to improve the situation of human rights in the country. The UN chief claimed in the report that he was particularly concerned about what he called the increased use of capital punishment in Iran. Commenting on the report during the Majlis open session this morning, Larijani said the report was released ˈunder an organized cultural and political propaganda called modern hypocrisy.ˈ ˈThey target anywhere they wish on the pretext of the so-called global and humanitarian norm,ˈ said the speaker, asking, ˈIs this a global norm to defend smugglers of narcotic drugs.ˈ The speaker also said that the Iranian MPs have condemned recent moves of the Zionist regime against the oppressed people of Palestine. Israeli fighter jets struck several targets in the city of Rafah, situated 30 kilometers South of Gaza City, on Thursday injuring several Palestinians. The Zionist regimeˈs warplanes also hit several locations in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday./end
